Youth art: Beetlejuice by Hannah SOLD and going to Cailfornia! #arttherapy

29 Sep

As of January 1, 2011, I am introducing the concept of micro-industry and ETSY to my art therapy students to empower them as they sell their own crafts!

Hannah is ferocious when she creates and her creations are infused with her expletives, tears, laughter and vulnerability. She is a prolific and talented young artist and will soon be a young mom.

Mural at Roberts Creek Elementary. 8 years later. Still there! #arttherapy

18 Sep

In 2003, I made the big move from the Sunshine Coast back to Vancouver.  As a therapeutic goodbye, my colleague, Michele Lilyanna, and I (along with a couple of young elementary school students) painted a mural on the school grounds.  I was back for a rare quick visit last weekend and was surprised and pleased that the mural is still there!   It was not a visit to connect with old friends but to privately process the past [at times very painful] in order to move forward.  It was amazing to allow my mind to go back.  Seeing that my mark making was still there was quite intriguing.  [Thank you, Michele, for this mural project collaboration!]

Enjoying sock monkeys in store windows! A form of #arttherapy!

13 Sep

My daughter, Anna, yelled STOP! when we passed by this amazing Kaboodles store window on Cambie Street in Vancouver!

The next day, Anna and I headed to Sechelt, BC, and when I walked my dog, Tobey, late at night (in the desolate small town streets), I came across this charming store of local art.  Handmade sock monkeys on display, naturally!

Our own Operation Sock Monkeys were on display in the window at District 319 last year:
