Destiny manifesting. Add to this #streetart inspired mural @YouthCO’s #ToolsForChange art event! #arttherapy

26 Oct

We started this mural in art therapy a few years ago and on July 5, 2011, I dragged it to Kirkstone Park, North Vancouver…

Satisfying!  Our plan is to display and sell the piece with proceeds going to my new youth retail project!  Stay tuned!

The mural was inspired by Doze Green‘s Galeria de la Raza, 1999, as found in the book Street Art San Francisco- Mission Muralismo:

Here’s a photo journey of our interpretation!  Thanks one and all who contributed to the piece!

It’s almost finished but it needs some more interaction!

So On October 28, 2011, you can add to it!!!

I have always loved sock monkeys and I am now nearly retirement age.  I have asked for sock monkeys for gifts and I have given them as gifts.  I have never made one, but was so excited to hear about this workshop!  It is a complete mystery to me as to why they are so beloved.  They are cute, if not adorable.  They incorporate a piece of ourselves in them (the socks).  They are whimsical.  They are soft.  They can be thrown around without damage!  They are floppy.  They seem like someone that you can always trust to be your friend! – Lisbeth

Suzanne suggested during last Sunday’s chat that we should have a sock monkey swap– wouldn’t that be wonderful? – Gretchen

Sock monkey therapy and catchup with superstar, Liz! #arttherapy #youthatrisk

15 Oct

Thanks to SOCKSMITH DESIGN for their incredible donation of socks for my youth awhile back!  I have been distributing the cornucopia over the past few months, and just gave two large piles to two students, including Liz.  It was great to spend the afternoon with her and two other students, sewing and chatting, venting and laughing.

She made the most adorable sock elephant.

"Hey guys!"

Full Grade 9 credits! Woohoo!

Many thanks for sharing sock monkeys Kat. Georgie Girl (my first ever sock monkey) and I loved it. There will be many more to come and hopefully I can share the love with my community really soon. –  Amanda

This weekend was Thanksgiving in Canada. We had a big family dinner, and afterward, the guests left, and family stayed and we made sock monkeys together, working, laughing and sewing a sock monkey family… We had a wonderful time connecting , and the next day we made even more. I am taking the supplies to the Young offenders facility in Whitehorse, and we are going to make some there too.We made even more , but they had already gone to loving homes before  the photo was taken. – Andria
